Buttons and triggers
Trigger values run 0 to 255. The light under each bar shows the digital click.
Melee angle practice
Melee only. Optional practice for hitting exact cardinals and shield drop with the control stick, scored in Super Smash Bros. Melee stick coordinates; other games read the stick differently.
Connect a controller, then flick the control stick to a target and back to center. A flick only counts if it lands on the exact coordinate.
Cardinals are the 1.0 magnitude points straight up, down, left and right. While practice is on, targets are marked as rings on the control stick gate; a ring turns green on a hit. Scores reset when you leave the page.
Stick trace (Oscilloscope) Control stick · last 3 seconds
Press Z, or use the button, to switch between the control stick and C-stick. To check snapback: hold the stick fully right, let go, and pause. A clean controller's yellow line drops back to center and stays there. A line that dips well below the -23 line is snapback. The trace checks for new readings hundreds of times a second, much faster than the screen redraws, and holds each value flat until the next one arrives, so it never draws movement between readings that wasn't there. A browser can still miss some reports from a 1000 Hz adapter; for the most precise view, use GCC Test Suite below.
Test your controller in Dolphin with GCC Test Suite
GCC Test Suite (GTS_GC.dol) is the open-source controller tester the PhobGCC team uses. You run it in the Dolphin emulator on your PC, with the controller plugged in through your adapter.
GameCube build, commit 50438b2, 1.5 MB. Licensed under GNU GPLv3. Credit: the PhobGCC team and Discord.
Running it in Dolphin
- Download GTS_GC.dol.
- In Dolphin's controller settings, set the port to the GameCube adapter so it reads your real controller.
- Choose File, then Open, and pick GTS_GC.dol.
- Press X to cycle tests. Press Z to reload.

My controller isn't showing up
Browsers can only see adapters that present themselves to the computer as a standard gamepad. Adapters with a PC mode, such as the GC Pocket+ or Lossless adapters, usually work right away. The official Nintendo adapter and other Wii U-mode adapters need a helper program before a browser can see them, even though they work in Dolphin.
Phob controllers may not work with most Mayflash adapters. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer, press a button on the controller after the page loads, and if the sticks stay centered, press B once.
Buttons light up in the wrong place
Each adapter numbers its buttons differently. Press Map buttons and follow the prompts. The mapping is saved in this browser for that adapter, so you only do it once.
How accurate are the numbers?
The browser receives scaled values from the adapter, and this page converts them back to the 0 to 255 byte and to Melee units. It's close enough to check calibration, notches and snapback. For the most precise testing, run GCC Test Suite in Dolphin (see above).
